Coronavirus- School Closure 19.03.2020

Thursday 19th March 2020

Dear Parent / Carer

I am sure that last night’s announcement from the government to close all schools in the U.K will have left you with a number of concerns and questions.  I will do my best to reassure you and provide you all with as much information as possible at this time.

For the vast majority of pupils, school will close tomorrow, Friday 20th March, at 3:15 p.m. until further notice.  This means that the majority of pupils will be required to stay at home until the school reopens.  There are two categories of pupils for whom the school will be able to provide child care arrangements, in line with government guidance.  These categories are:

  1. Children with parents who are ‘key workers’.
  2. Vulnerable children.

At the time of writing this letter, I am still awaiting clarification from the government as to who qualifies as a ‘key worker’.  Once this becomes clear, families who feel they meet the criteria, will be able to contact school to make arrangements for their children to be looked after to enable their parents to continue to work.

‘Vulnerable children’ are classified as those who receive ongoing support from a designated social worker or a child who has an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP).  Mr Faulkner will contact the families who qualify for this support directly to see if support with child care is required at this time.

When school closes tomorrow, all children will be sent home with a learning pack of activities to do whilst they are at home.  This will consist of:

  • An exercise book
  • Some reading books
  • A pack of learning activities
  • A pencil
  • Topic related knowledge organisers

For all children who are currently not attending school, learning packs will available for collection from school when it is safe for them to do so.  Packs will be available daily between 11:45 am and 1:00 pm from the Reception classroom by the main entrance to school.

In addition to this, online activities will also be available for the children to access on the Year Group pages of the website.  This includes Times Tables Rockstars, Purple Mash and Phonics Play.  The teaching staff will also upload regular activities for the children to complete too.

A number of our pupils are entitled to receive a free school meal each day.   I am pleased to be able to tell you that this will continue during the school’s closure.  A packed lunch can be collected, for each entitled child, from the Reception classroom between 11:45 am and 1:00 pm each day.  Please note we are unable to provide space for the children to eat their lunch in school; the packed lunch will need to be taken home.

During the school’s closure, we will endeavour to keep you as up to date as possible regarding the ongoing situation.  Regular notices will be placed on the school’s website and Facebook page so please do check them regularly.  The parents’ text message system will also be used to send reminders and small updates.

I would like to thank you all for your help and support as we all do what we can to support our community in these extremely challenging times.

Take good care of yourselves and each other.

Keep safe.
