Art & Design
Art & Design Intent
At Castle Hill we see art as a vehicle for creativity and individual expression. It provides visual, tactile and sensory experiences and a special way of understanding and responding to the world. It enables children to communicate what they see, feel and think through the use of colour, texture, form, pattern and different materials and processes. As a school we value Art and Design as an important part of the children’s entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum.
We aim to offer a high-quality art and design education that engages, inspires and challenges pupils, equipping them with progressive knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art. Alongside this, we believe it is vital to expose our children to the work of a vast number of famous artists, craft makers and designers, allowing them to take inspiration for their own artwork.
They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history and explore the impact it has had on contemporary life and that of different times and cultures.
At Castle Hill we strive to instil a love and appreciation of art and design within our children and hope to stimulate every child’s inner creativity and imagination and ignite their confidence within the subject.
