Physical Education Long Term Overview

Physical Education Intent

Physical education at Castle Hill Primary School develops the physical competence and confidence of learners, and their ability to use these to perform in a range of activities and settings. It promotes physical skilfulness, physical development and a knowledge of the body in action.

Through a progressive, ambitious and knowledge rich curriculum, Physical Education at Castle Hill Primary School provides opportunities for learners to be creative and competitive, developing the resilience required to face different challenges as individuals and in groups and teams.   This includes the active participation in intra and inter school competitions. It promotes positive attitudes towards an active and healthy lifestyle, as well as a readiness for the next stage in their development.  Pupils learn key vocabulary and to think in different ways to suit a wide variety of creative, competitive and challenging activities.

By using a well-planned and sequenced scheme of work, our children and staff learn how to plan, perform and evaluate actions, ideas and performances to improve their quality and effectiveness. Through this process, learners discover their aptitudes, abilities and preferences and make choices about how to get involved in lifelong physical activity.
